Why do we praise and worship?

The first part of the course walks through the Psalms to answer a simple question: why praise? Because it is a command. More than twenty declarations of the psalmist testify to it: "I will praise the Lord with my whole heart" (Psalm 111:1), "Praise Him with instruments," "Let all nations praise Him," "Let all creation praise Him."

And an extraordinary promise accompanies this command: God sits enthroned among the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). Praise introduces His presence.

Praise and worship: what is the difference?

The course carefully distinguishes the two. Praise is a progressive movement, an internal and external expression of the soul: song, shout, movement, exaltation. It is a verbal confession of gratitude to God for what He has done and what He will do. Worship goes further: it is the heart bowing before God for who He is. God seeks true worshipers who worship in spirit and in truth.
