The Blood Covenant
To understand the Bible, you must understand covenant. This course reveals the most sacred, lasting, and binding covenant people have ever known, and what it means for your relationship with God.
What is a blood covenant?
A blood covenant is a pact between two people or two peoples, sealed by the shedding of blood. It is the oldest covenant known to humanity. Several scholars believe it began in the Garden of Eden, when God killed an animal to cover Adam and Eve's nakedness (Genesis 3:21).
The course explains its striking characteristics: it is an unbreakable bond, an unlimited covenant in which the possessions, debts, and strengths of one partner become those of the other, and a covenant that is never broken. Everywhere it has been practiced in the world, it has never been known to be broken.
Why people make covenants, and why God made one
You will study why people enter into covenants: mutual protection, shared strength, and sealed friendship. Then the course reverses the perspective: in His grace, God Himself entered into covenant with humanity, first with Abraham, then with us through the blood of Jesus Christ in the new covenant.
