Building Spiritual and Natural Character for Effective Ministry
Gifts open doors for you; character keeps you there. This third-year course builds, stone by stone, the spiritual and natural character without which no ministry lasts.
Spiritual character
The first part of the course teaches how to cultivate the anointing (1 John 2:20) through four disciplines:
- Holiness: living, speaking, and thinking "Be holy, for I am holy" (Leviticus 19:2)
- A heart quick to repent
- Prompt obedience to the Holy Spirit
- Prayer, worship, and study of the Word of God, with His Word abiding in you
Then comes the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): choosing to act by the fruit of the Spirit and not by the flesh, and praying in the Spirit, with less of one's humanity and more of God in oneself.
Precision in the Spirit
An original section of the course concerns spiritual precision: listening more to the Spirit and speaking less, being sensitive to His voice, and not allowing the devil to lead your prayer life. The goal is a servant of God who discerns accurately, in spiritual things as well as natural things.
The course also insists on the importance of a personal prayer life: God saved us for relationship, and prayer maintains that relationship, gives direction for your life, and gives strength to live by conviction.
Natural character
Ministry does not rest only on the spiritual. The course also covers natural character: integrity, reliability, personal discipline, relationships, and the visible qualities that give credibility to the invisible message.
