Principles and Methods of the New Testament Church
Why does the New Testament church exist, and how did God intend it to function? This course goes back to the roots, from the Abrahamic covenant to the book of Acts, to recover the original model.
Why the New Testament church?
The course traces the thread of redemptive history: the Abrahamic covenant (Genesis 15-18), the rites and rules of the Mosaic law, Israel's disobedience (Galatians 3:19-23), then the prophetic word announcing a new covenant: Isaiah, Jeremiah 31:31-34 ("I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel"), Joel 2:28-32, and finally Luke 22:20, where Jesus seals it in His blood.
You will study the transition in the Gospels: a new seed for Abraham (Galatians 3:6-9), new worshipers in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24), and the move from law to grace.
The birth of the Church
The second part dives into the book of Acts, with an overview organized around one central observation: the omnipresence of the Holy Spirit. The course details His role and functions in the newborn Church:
- He teaches and gives power for ministry (Acts 1:8; 2:4)
- He gives orders (Acts 8:29; 10:19-21; 15:28)
- He chooses and reveals (Acts 13:2; 20:22-23)
- He strengthens and encourages (Acts 9:31)
A second observation: the beginning of the Church is marked by a demonstration of power, and Jesus is preached, not a system.
