Why we need the supernatural

The supernatural refers to events whose manifestations flow from laws beyond the physical world: spiritual laws that cancel the effects of natural laws. The course establishes why the believer cannot do without it: the flesh falls far short of God's objectives (Zechariah 4:6), we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12), only the Holy Spirit reveals the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:9-12), and our faith must rest on God's power, not on human wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:5).

Discerning spirits

A warning runs through the course: the devil also has supernatural abilities that he manifests through people, in false prophecies (Acts 16:16-18) as well as in sorcery (Acts 8). Hence the command: "Test the spirits" (1 John 4:1-3). You will learn the biblical criteria for discernment.

The twofold work of the Spirit

The heart of the course distinguishes the Spirit in us and the Spirit upon us. Outside the believer, He convicts the world of sin; inside, He works salvation, sanctification, and transformation (John 14:16-17). And when He comes upon the believer, it is to clothe them with power for service and witness.
