Prayer II
Your prayer life will never be above your personal life in Jesus Christ. This second-year course goes beyond techniques: it addresses the heart of the one who prays.
Your personal prayer life
Where Prayer I laid the foundations, this second part touches intimacy. The starting point is overwhelming: the Lord's desire to know you. God is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14), and the thirst you may have for Him is very small compared with God's desire for you.
The course therefore reverses the motivation for prayer: do not spend time with the Lord in order to become more spiritual or a better Christian; spend time with Him because the Lord is waiting for your love.
The three factors of a solid prayer life
You will examine the three factors that determine the consistency and quality of your prayer life: the place of your prayer (Matthew 6:6), the subject of your prayer (Matthew 6:7), and the time of your prayer (Mark 1:35, "in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight").
An important part of prayer life consists of ministering to the Lord: praising Him, worshiping Him, singing to Him, and giving thanks to Him (Ephesians 5:18-19; Acts 13:2).
Four often forgotten elements
The course details four frequently neglected dimensions of prayer: waiting on God (Isaiah 40:31), watching (Matthew 26:41; Colossians 4:2), perseverance, and intercession.
What you will discover in this course
- How hunger and thirst for God determine your spiritual life (Matthew 5:6)
- The place, subject, and time: structuring your prayer life without making it rigid
- Ministering to the Lord: prayer as priestly service
- Waiting on God, watching, interceding: the forgotten dimensions of prayer
"Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles." — Isaiah 40:31
Who is this course for?
For students who have taken Prayer I, and for every believer whose prayer life has become mechanical. Continuity with the first year is an asset, but this course is for every child of God who thirsts for deeper fellowship with the Father. You do not need to be an intercessor or minister to rekindle this fire.
