Prayer I
Why do some prayers receive no answer? This first-year course lays the foundations of an effective prayer life, beginning directly with what Jesus Himself taught.
What Jesus said about prayer
The course begins where everything must begin: with the words of Jesus. You will systematically walk through His teaching on prayer in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John: asking, seeking, knocking, persevering, watching, forgiving.
What prayer is, and what it is not
To pray is to ask (Matthew 7:7-8), to speak God's Word back to Him and remind Him of it (Isaiah 43:26), to persist in asking (Ephesians 6:18), and to communicate with the Father, including through thanksgiving, praise, and worship.
By contrast, the course exposes what prayer is not: an exercise in desperation and unbelief, a performance to impress people (Matthew 6:5), or a repetition of vain words (Matthew 6:7).
What you will discover in this course
- The reasons prayers are not answered, and how to correct them
- The different kinds of prayer: thanksgiving, praise and worship, supplication, petition, intercession
- Concrete steps toward answered prayer, beginning with knowing the Word of God concerning your situation
- How to move from religious and general prayer to precise prayer according to God's will
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." — Matthew 7:7
A foundational course, not a theoretical one
At CFBK, prayer is not only a subject of study: it is the heart of the training. This course is designed to transform your personal practice. Every principle is accompanied by biblical references to meditate on and put into practice during the week. Prayer II, in the second year, will deepen personal prayer life and intercession.
Who is this course for?
For every child of God who wants their prayer life to bear fruit: the new believer, the one discouraged by unanswered prayers, and the servant of God who wants to build on fellowship with the Father. Prayer is not reserved for pastors or "professional" intercessors; it is the breathing of every disciple of Jesus.
