Introduction to Ministry
God gave gifts to the Church to build His Kingdom effectively. Yet many members, including ministers, do not know the gifts they have received. This course helps you discover yours.
Three types of gifts
The course organizes the biblical teaching on gifts into three major categories:
- Ministry gifts (Ephesians 4:11-12): apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, given by Jesus Christ Himself for the edification and maturity of the Church
- Motivational gifts (Romans 12:5-8): prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, organization, mercy
- Charismatic gifts (1 Corinthians 12): three vocal gifts, three power gifts (miracles, faith, healings), and three revelation gifts (word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discerning of spirits)
One key in the course is that motivational gifts generally lead toward the five ministry gifts (Acts 6:1-6). God confirms in faithful service before He raises someone into a function.
Understanding the five ministries
The second part examines the ministry gifts in detail: their foundation (1 Corinthians 4:15), their source, because the Lord Jesus alone gives gifts to the Church (Ephesians 4:8-12), and the specific function of each one, from apostle to teacher.
